Here's What Will Happen If You Don't Link Your PAN and Aadhaar By March 31
Failure to link your Permanent Account Number (PAN) with your Aadhaar card by March 31, 2023, will result in serious consequences under the I-T Act, according to a circular issued by the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT). This requirement has been in place since the first circular was issued, and it is intended to ensure that all taxpayers have a unique identification number linked to their PAN in order to prevent tax evasion.
If you do not link your Aadhaar and PAN by the March 31 deadline, your PAN will become inoperative, and you will be unable to furnish, intimate, or quote your PAN, as per Rule 114AAA of the Income-tax Rules. You will also be liable for all consequences under the Act for such a failure.
Late fees of ₹ 1,000 will be charged if you link your PAN with your Aadhaar after the June 30, 2022 deadline.
Failure to link your PAN and Aadhaar may result in difficulties when filing your Income Tax Return (ITR), which may be rejected by the Income Tax Department, and you may be prevented from filing your ITR, which may prevent you from receiving a tax refund. Obtaining a new PAN card without linking it to Aadhaar may also be difficult if your PAN card is lost or damaged, and it is now mandatory to include your Aadhaar card number when applying for a new PAN card.
