Jalen Carter, a former University of Georgia football player, has issued a response to the recent news of his involvement in the investigation surrounding the fatal crash that claimed the lives of UGA recruiter Chandler LeCroy and offensive lineman Devin Willock. In a statement released on Twitter, Carter acknowledged that he was informed by police of the warrants issued for his arrest on Wednesday morning. He expressed his intention to return to Athens and face the misdemeanor charges against him, ensuring that the "complete and accurate truth" will be presented.

Carter went on to assert his belief that he will be "fully exonerated of any criminal wrongdoing" once all the facts have been revealed. The former defensive lineman was charged with reckless driving and racing by Athens-Clarke County police on Wednesday after their investigation found evidence that he was driving another vehicle alongside LeCroy's Ford Expedition at high speeds, with both cars allegedly trying to outpace each other. The crash occurred just hours after the Bulldogs celebrated back-to-back national championships in January 2023.

According to police, LeCroy's SUV was travelling at 104 miles per hour shortly before the accident. Willock was thrown from the vehicle and died at the scene, while LeCroy was trapped and later died in hospital. Two other individuals in the SUV were also injured.

In response to the charges against Carter, UGA head Coach Kirby Smart issued a statement expressing his deep concern, particularly in light of the loss of two beloved members of the community. He pledged the university's full cooperation with authorities and its commitment to supporting the families affected by this tragedy while seeking to learn from it.
