Introduction

Kesari Veer (2025), directed by Prince Dhiman and Kanubhai Chauhan, is a Bollywood historical action drama that attempts to bring to life the valiant tale of Hamirji Gohil, a Rajput warrior who fought against the Tughlaq Empire to protect the Somnath Temple. Starring Sooraj Pancholi, Suniel Shetty, Vivek Oberoi, and debutante Akanksha Sharma, the film promises grandeur but struggles with execution, earning mixed reviews from critics and audiences alike . 

Plot Synopsis 

Set in the 14th century, *Kesari Veer* follows Hamirji Gohil (Sooraj Pancholi), a prince from Arthila, as he leads a resistance against Zafar Khan (Vivek Oberoi), a ruthless Tughlaq commander intent on plundering the Somnath Temple. The narrative also explores Hamirji’s alliance with the Bhil tribe, led by Vegdaji (Suniel Shetty), and his romantic subplot with Rajal (Akanksha Sharma). Despite its promising premise, the film suffers from inconsistent pacing, overdramatization, and weak storytelling .  

Strengths of the Film

1. Visual Spectacle & Action Sequences – The film boasts stylized battle scenes, with hyper-realistic cinematography by Vikas Joshi and well-choreographed action sequences. However, excessive VFX and speed-ramping effects sometimes detract from the realism .  

2. Cultural Representation– The depiction of Gujarati traditions and the Bhil community’s devotion to Lord Shiva adds authenticity to the film .  

3. Background Score– Kailash Kher’s *"Shambhu Har Har"* stands out, enhancing the film’s devotional undertones .  

Weaknesses & Criticisms

1. Weak Screenplay & Pacing – The film’s runtime (161 minutes) feels stretched due to unnecessary romantic subplots, song sequences, and repetitive battle scenes .  

2. **Over-the-Top Performances** – Sooraj Pancholi’s one-note intensity and Vivek Oberoi’s theatrical villainy fail to evoke depth, while Suniel Shetty’s role, though earnest, lacks nuance .  

3. Poor VFX & Logical Inconsistencies – Scenes like a beheaded warrior continuing to fight or a CGI lioness rescue break immersion .  

4. Lack of Emotional Depth – Despite its patriotic theme, the film struggles to create a genuine emotional connection with the audience .  

Final Verdict

Kesari Veer had the potential to be a gripping historical epic but falls short due to weak direction, uneven performances, and excessive reliance on visual gimmicks. While it offers moments of spectacle, the film ultimately feels like a missed opportunity.
